Among hot political contests in New Jersey, Virginia, and New York tomorrow, Maine voters have an opportunity to overturn a law recognizing same-sex marriage in that state. You can read more about it in this AP report.
How did New England get to be so liberal? As I mentioned here, you can blame it (partly) on those arch-advocates of individualism and intellectualism, the Puritans.

Interesting. The Colonial South was mostly CofE I think, and has probably always been more conservative than New England. Even within the ECUSA today, Southern 'piskies are a conservative lot, such as Falls Church Parish, et al in Virginia, the Diocese of South Carolina (+Mark Lawrence) and the Diocese of Central Florida (+John Howe).
