The American Medical Association is putting a positive spin on President Obama’s upcoming address at the Association’s 158th association meeting in Chicago, June 15. Among the requisite warm and fuzzies, notes AMA president Dr. Nancy H. Nielsen in a prepared press release:

“The AMA pledged to President Obama that the medical profession would reduce unnecessary costs by focusing on quality improvements, such as developing best practices for care and improving medication reconciliation.”

“In order for physicians to focus on patient care, health reform that covers the uninsured must also include permanent Medicare payment reform, antitrust relief and medical liability protections.”

Which is to say, as the AP is suggesting, that Dr. Nielsen and Co. are seriously concerned about government control of the health care industry.
