In February, U.S. scientists claimed hypospadias was among the handful of serious congenital defects more likely to occur in IVF babies than naturally conceived children. . . As the Mail reported at the time, official guidance will soon make clear that test-tube babies could be up to 30 per cent more likely to suffer from birth defects. . . Conditions found by the latest study to have higher incidences in IVF babies include hypospadias, heart-valve defects, cleft lip and palate, and digestive system abnormalities, as well as an increased chance of rare genetic disorders such as Angelman syndrome and Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome.
