And this seven and one-half years after 9/11. According to the Gallup Poll released April 27,

One of the key findings of this Gallup Poll is that a majority of Americans (55%) in retrospect believe the use of harsh interrogation techniques by the Bush administration was justified.

I wonder what the results would have been a few years ago. Oh wait, the good folks at Gallup have been doing polls for a long time. Apparently, a higher percentage of Americans approve the use of harsh interrogation techniques now than when they approved of government torture of terrorists in 2005. . . and 2001.
